Gambia travel Guide - things to see

More Examples of traveling the Gambia...

Georgetown and catch sight of the fascinating circles in eastern Gambia. Standing stones around Wassu. Their origin is shrouded in mystery but they are thought to mark prehistoric burial grounds. Could be a 2 or 3 days trip up country, also exploring the Baboon Island and boating across the river.

Enjoy the beautiful mid-river location of Janjanbureh Island in eastern Gambia, an excellent spot to unwind in an unspoilt rustic environment, with plenty of good places to walk or bird watch in the vicinity.

Walk through the tropical forest of the Abuko Nature Reserve, which is within easy reach of the main resort areas and has crocodiles, monkeys, reptiles and a host of bird species. It is best early in the morning.

At Makasutu Culture Forest, join a tour of the beautiful forest park, learning about local medicinal plants and woodland fauna, then take a boat trip by dugout canoe and enjoy a spirited display of local-style music and dance.

Meet a friendly croc at the Katchikali Crocodile Pool, a site sacred to the Mandinka tribe in the coastal village of Bakau. Also ancient fertility rites are sometimes held here.

Visit a local kindergarten at Brikama. Enjoy the smiling faces of enthusiastic school children during this excursion. Of course we can extend the tour and pass along nice other areas.

Traveling to Senegal: for example a 3 days tour from Banjul by ferryboat to Barra. Visiting Fort Bullen and cross the Gambian/Senegalese border. Driving to Kaolack, have lunch, visiting the market area and colonial buildings.
After diner and spending the night (hotel) an early breakfast and depart to Dakar checking in the next hotel and by ferry to Goree Island (The Guns of Navaron). Following a tour to Presidential Palace, the market area, Place De L'independence and after diner visiting the Dakar nightlife. In the morning departure to Banjul passing other things to see and enjoying lunch.
